If I could give this book zero stars I would. I have many xeroxed books of original works in my library and this one is by far the very worst. Yes, it's a photocopy of the original,
A totally useless printing. Garbage. This book is SUPPOSED to be a reprint of the classic Catherwood book including his amazing illustrations of his explorations and descriptions of those prints. The descriptions are there in a very small, indistinct font. THERE ARE NO ILLUSTRATIONS. It's like buying a sandwich and getting two slices of stale bread. I read some unflattering things about "Forgotten Books" online but figured the low price was worth a gamble. I was wrong. Save your money. Full color scans of first editions are available online for free. I hope the ghost of the tree cut down to make this trash haunts the Forgotten Books guys. They deserve it.
He and Stephens are totally under-appreciated, it seems, by most historians of the mainstream!
There's not much useful information in this book and the illustrations are ok.
Zero stars would be a appropriate rating. Item is totally worthless.
The only problem is that the portrait inside the first page is not that of Frederick Catherwood but John Lloyd Stephens, his traveling partner.
