Review

"A memoir of faith and perseverance after a dramatically life-altering circumstance...a marvel of a story. Easy to read, this tender, occasionally sappy narrative shines most as an illustration of faith at work...Most importantly, Lucas's contributions to sports journalism are invaluable, and the book is a testament to the experiences of a man intimately tied to the game throughout the modern era. Filled with a life-affirming sincerity that challenges us to put our lives in greater perspective." (Kirkus)"Lucas has an admirable and irresistible capacity for genuine introspection, and his inviting, straightforward narrative, written with his son, shows a fearful teen who thought his life was over evolving into a young man who views his blindness as "not a handicap [but] an inconvenience" with unstinting family support...For the fans of America's favorite pastime, this book..will only enhance the legacy of one of the broadcasting pioneers of the sport." (Publishers Weekly) "For Ed Lucas to be able to do what he's done on a daily basis for all of these years is amazing. I have an incredible amount of admiration for him, and am inspired by his story." (Don Mattingly)“Ed Lucas is a truly remarkable man. He is an inspiration to many parents who seek the very best for their children. Everyone with dreams should realize that with determination it is often possible to achieve great things - as Ed Lucas did - in our wonderful country.” (Justice Samuel Alito)“We have spent our lives as screenwriters trying to invent stories as emotional, as exciting, as funny, and as triumphal as Ed Lucas' real life. We're still trying.” (Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel, screenwriters of A League of Their Own and Parenthood)“Ed's compelling story reads so well because he’s been so blessed. He may be blind, but he’s got lots of vision.” (Ron Swoboda)"An American hero with a winning smile and a wonderful way with words, Ed Lucas’ life story is touching and inspirational. He’s a great example for us all.” (Tony Lo Bianco)"Ed Lucas, a blind man, sees more deeply than most. His life shows us the important things we might miss." (Bob Dotson, NBC’s TODAY Show Correspondent, New York Times Best Selling Author of American Story)"Ed is a special individual that never let his lack of eyesight stop him. He always has a smile and a handshake to make you feel at ease. He’s a great guy and an even better friend." (Rick Cerone)“Ed Lucas not only overcame blindness, he has taken his adversity and become a trailblazer, doing things people said could never be done, helping thousands of others along the way.” (Karl Nelson (New York Giants 1986 Super Bowl XXI champion))

Absolutely loved reading this book aloud to my hubby.....We live in the area that the author lived so some people, places and things were so recognizable. The true story was both heartbreaking and enlightening. Author still writes for NY Post and Jersey Journal...He has a foundation that raises money for seeing eye dogs for people that need them....The Ed Lucas Foundation. I understand their may be a movie made???? Recommended reading for the "older generation" that would recall all the baseball players....Phil Rizzoto and the like....Baseball fans will love it.....Yankee fans especially and my hubby, die hard Red Sox fan absolutely loved listening as I read......highly recommend.

Truly an inspirational read. I'm from Jersey City, NJ too, just like the authors are. Got to love the connections to the city. Ed Lucas has overcome "Blind" prejudices and obstacles to get where he is now. It's a great way to get to know him. It's more than baseball stories. It's for everyone who has been through what he's been through or through any other circumstances. There are funny stories in there as well. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED read! Not just because of the Jersey City connection, but because Ed Lucas is a wonderful human being. His son Chris Lucas co-wrote the book with his dad. It's a wonderful look inside the world of a man's fascination of baseball. My favorite part of the book is in Chapter 7 "Cold Cuts and Hot Feet: My Life in the Clubhouse" where co-author and son Chris, when he was little, got teased in school because his father was blind and couldn't do things that regular dads could do. From the chapter: Chris shuts them all up at once by saying: "Oh yeah? Well, I bet that your dad doesn't have special powers like my dad does. He can read to us in the dark!" Twin Vision turner me into a superhero, Ed says. That part made me laugh. Now I'm just looking forward to the movie version. I would love this book to go to the BIG SCREEN!

I met the author and his son in person at an event and heard the story about the book, went home that night and ordered book to read it and let my mother read it. It is amazing how this story came about and could not believe it. Had a brief conversation with the son and it was astonishing on what his father went through being blind and the first blind radio commentator. It is financially affordable and recommend to buy one if you are int baseball.John

Absolutely love this book. This book is a story of triumph and determination from someone in the baseball community but is not a player. The story of Ed Lucas is a heartfelt journey through his life and then career as a baseball sports writer. He did not let a disability stop him in any aspect of his life or career. He is a true hero. As a baseball fan, the story is even more special.

A few disclaimers. (1) I do not really care about sports. (2) I don't typically read non-fiction.That said, I highly recommend Seeing Home The Ed Lucas story. It is an amazing book. Well written to the point where I didn't want to put it down and finished it in two days. It made me laugh and brought me close to tears many times. It is an inspirational story for the ages. It is a story about faith and following your dreams in the face of enormous obstacles. A truly great read.

An amazing story that's easy to read. It's the life story of a man who loves baseball and the struggles he faced and the help he received after he lost his eyesight playing baseball. It is a story that will warm your heart, and let you know that there are still lots of good people in this country. I highly recommend it. Once you read it, you won't forget it.

Seeing Home is an eye-opening and illuminating true story of a blind man, who believes he can and does accomplish everything he sets out to do with humor and determination. The book destroys the blind stereotypes that most of us have grown up with. Ed can tell time from his wristwatch, does not wear sunglasses and does not feel peoples faces. I recently had the privilege of spending some time with Ed and his wonderful wife Allison. They are warm, friendly, down to earth people. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read about how someone can conquer adversity and accomplish their dreams.

If you are a baseball fan, a person of faith, a cheerleader for the underdog or just someone who enjoys a good, heartwarming story, Seeing Home is a must read. It has been a long time since I've had a book that I could not stop reading but this book hooked me in immediately and wouldn't let me go. Mr. Lucas' faith-filled journey is inspiring for anyone facing adversity. His sense of humor and positive attitude is a lesson for each of us to be cognizant of and thankful for all the blessings we receive even during the most difficult times. The best part, besides the story itself, is I can share this book with my sons as it contains completely appropriate language and situations for younger kids. I highly recommend Seeing Home: The Ed Lucas Story.
